The Ministry of Railways under the Govt of India released a circular stating the reduction of prices of one-liter and half-liter water bottles in trains. Per its commercial circular no. 18 of 2025, the Railway Board has revised the maximum retail price (MRP) of one liter bottle from Rs 15 to Rs 14. The price for a bottle of 500 ml water will now be Rs 9, down from Rs 10. This one-rupee reduction has come into effect owing to the lowering of GST (Goods and Services Tax)
Under the new GST 2.0 that will be in effect from Monday, several articles and services have become inexpensive. Items such as confectionaries, butter, cheese, and savory snacks will move from the 12% slab to the 5% slab. Meanwhile, ice cream, biscuits, soaps, toothpastes, and shampoo also have been shifted from the 18% to 5% GST slab.
Under the new simplified GST, there are only three slabs of 5% , 18% and 40%. The additional slabs of 12% and 28% have been abolished under GST 2.0. Essentials have been moved to the 5% slab, while other goods to 18%. Sin or luxury goods now will attract a hefty 40% tariff.

Meanwhile, reacting to the news of the price reduction of the water bottles in the Indian Railways, the internet erupted into memes and hilarious reactions.
One user commented, “Aapke vendors ke paas 5 ka sikka hi nahi hota tha 15ki jab thi to 20 lete the to ab 14 ki hai indirectly unko ek rupye ka aur benefits hogya.”
Another user noted, “Itne paise se kashmir mein plot le sakte hai.”
A third user quipped “What a joke is this? Now that one rupee change that no vendor will be giving back will contribute to the hoarding of black money.”
Yet another user jibed, “Bache hue paise ka Nalasopara mein villa kharidunga.”
