This week, September 21–27, 2025, we pause to honor HBCU Week — a time to uplift the legacy, impact, and cultural heartbeat of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
For generations, HBCUs have been more than classrooms and campuses. They’ve been spaces of resilience, leadership, and vision. They’ve trained educators, innovators, organizers, and artists who shaped history and are still reshaping our future.
Here in Texas, we’re proud to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of institutions including:
- Huston-Tillotson University
- Jarvis Christian College
- Paul Quinn College
- Southwestern Christian College
- St. Philip’s College
- Texas College
- Wiley College
Each carries its own story of excellence, cultural pride, and community power. Together, they form a network that has prepared thousands of students not just for careers, but for a life of purpose.
This year’s celebration reminds us that HBCUs remain as vital now as they were when they were founded. They are still producing the leaders who stand on the frontlines of change — whether in classrooms, boardrooms, statehouses, or in the streets advocating for justice.
As we celebrate HBCU Week, let’s also commit to investing in their futures. Support their programs. Share their stories. Encourage the next generation of students to see these schools as a place where they can grow into their full potential.
