A major accident in Parker County has closed both directions of FM 730 in Azle, police say.
PARKER COUNTY, Texas — A major accident in Parker County shut down both southbound and northbound lanes of FM 730 South in Azle Tuesday afternoon, police said.
According to a Facebook post from the Azle Police Department, FM 730 S northbound and southbound lanes were closed from Creekwood Ranch Road to Main Street. The closure lasted for several hours in the 13000 block of FM 730.
Azle Police Chief Bennett Hall told WFAA that, around 12:19 p.m., a vehicle traveling northbound on FM 730 left its lane and crashed head-on with a vehicle traveling in the southbound lane. Hall said that the driver of the southbound vehicle and a passenger in the northbound vehicle were killed in the crash. Two others were taken to the hospital with significant injuries, the police chief said. A fifth person was also being evaluated for injuries.
Five vehicles were involved in the crash. The northbound driver hit two cars when it veered into the southbound lane. As a result of that crash, two other cars collided with those cars, according to Chief Hall.
“These are horrible, tragic events and a lot of times they’re caused by really simple distractions in vehicles,” said Chief Hall.
Substances are not believed to have been a factor, but police are still investigating.
“Really, the only message I would say is when you’re driving, make that be the main thing,” said Chief Hall.
At around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Azle PD announced that the roadway was back open.
