The 55-year-old suspect was arrested after a child made an outcry to her mother, police say.
WYLIE, Texas — Wylie police arrested a 55-year-old man Thursday evening and charged him with continuous sexual abuse of a child, officials say.
According to police, the arrest stems from an investigation that began Oct. 1.
The investigation began after police received information of a child making an outcry to her mother, police said. The mother told police about it, and after investigating and conducting interviews, police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, Arthur Bass.
Bass was taken to the City of Wylie Jail without incident.
Wylie ISD announced Tuesday that Bass had previously served as a substitute teacher for the district from 2023 through April 2025. The district sent the following statement to families and staff:
“We want to make you aware of a situation involving a former Wylie ISD substitute teacher. Earlier today, we were notified that this individual was arrested on charges of sexual abuse of a child.
“It is important to share that this situation did not occur on a Wylie ISD campus, nor did it involve a student the substitute met through our schools. The individual began working as a substitute in 2023, with his last assignment in April 2025. He has not served in our schools this school year. During his time with us, he worked at multiple campuses across the district, and we received no complaints regarding his conduct.
“Following notification of his arrest, the substitute was terminated from our district and is no longer eligible to work in Wylie ISD. We have also reported him to the Texas Education Agency as required.
“As this is a criminal matter that does not directly involve our district, we do not have further details to share. Our understanding is that the Wylie Police Department will release additional information soon. At that time, if parents or staff have knowledge that could assist law enforcement, we encourage you to contact Wylie PD directly.
“We also want to encourage parents to have ongoing conversations with their children about appropriate behavior by adults. If your child ever feels uncomfortable or has a concern, they should reach out immediately to the police or a trusted adult at home or school.
“Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.”
The case is still under investigation.
