Five people were shot, and one person was killed in a shooting at an East Dallas strip mall, police said.
DALLAS — A late-night argument outside an East Dallas convenience store erupted into chaos early Sunday, leaving one person dead and four others injured.
Officers responded to a shooting call around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at a strip mall in the 8300 block of La Prada Drive, the Dallas Police Department said in a press release.
Four people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, and one person, now identified as 21-year-old Jacob Cuellar, died on the scene, police said. Officials did not immediately the suspect.
Surveillance video from a convenience store shows a fight breaking out just before the gunfire.
“There was some dude that was yelling out there. [Then] there were gunshots,” said an employee who was closing the store when the violence erupted. He asked not to be identified, saying fights at the shopping center are common.
“When somebody loses their life, it’s gone too far,” he said.
A look around the parking lot reveals more reminders of past violence. There are bullet holes and a small memorial still standing nearly a year after another deadly shooting there. That earlier incident, on Aug. 18, 2024, also left one victim dead.
The latest shooting followed a private party at Fire Orchard, a club in the same shopping center.
In a written statement, a manager said, “My heart goes out to everyone affected,” adding that the club will work to provide “extra top-line security.”
The incident is under investigation, police said.
