Here is what to know about the Super Bowl oddsboard:
The Favorites: The Chiefs seem like they’re getting back to championship form. Their odds have shifted, moving up to +550 from +650 over the last week, and they’re currently the lone favorites in this spot. At 4-3, Kansas City is second in the AFC West behind the 5-2 Broncos, but based on how Patrick Mahomes and his offense are clicking, the Chiefs could be taking over that top spot soon, too. Mahomes has 1,800 yards on the season and his 14 touchdowns are third-best in the league.
The Defending Champs: The Eagles’ Super Bowl futures shifted slightly to +1200 from +1100, but like K.C., they look like they could be trending in a better direction after getting the 28-22 win at Minnesota in Week 7. They’re 5-2 straight up (SU) and 4-3 against the spread (ATS), but Philadelphia’s shortcomings this year seem to be in its run game. While star running back Saquon Barkley has 113 carries on the season (third), he only has 369 yards, which is 22nd in the league. If Jalen Hurts can connect with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith more often, as he did in the win over the Vikes, we could see this +1200 shorten soon. When it comes to winning the Big Game in consecutive years, however, other than the Chiefs going back-to-back in 2022 and 2023, winning two in a row is a feat seldom accomplished in the Super Bowl era. New England won the Super Bowl in 2003 and 2004. Before that, the Broncos won in 1997 and 1998, and the Cowboys won in 1993 and 1994. The Niners went back-to-back in 1988 and 1989; the Steelers won in 1974 and 1975, and then again in 1978 and 1979. The Dolphins won in 1972 and 1973, and the Packers won in 1966 and 1967.
Ones to Watch: The Colts at 6-1 SU (5-2 ATS) might be one of the biggest surprises of the season so far. Quarterback Daniel Jones has passed for 1,790 yards on the season, but it’s RB Jonathan Taylor who’s really been the darling of that offense. In the Colts’ 38-24 win over the Chargers in Week 7, Taylor had three TDs and 94 yards. After that dominant performance, Indy moved up the board to +1000 from +1400.
