Downtown Dallas drivers to face delays due to IH-45 bridge maintenance

North Texas drivers who use the IH-45/IH-30 interchange could be dealing with traffic delays into August.

DALLAS — North Texas drivers who use the IH-45/IH-30 interchange could be dealing with traffic delays over the next few weeks.

The IH‑45 off-ramp to westbound IH‑30 in Dallas closed on Monday, July 7, and will stay closed to divers through early August, weather permitting.

Drivers traveling northbound on I‑45 and wishing to access westbound I‑30 will be redirected via a signed detour:

1. Continue north on US 75

2. Exit at Hall Street/Lemmon Avenue (Exit 1A)

3. Make a U-turn to reconnect to I‑30 westbound

4. Alternatives: Use the Dallas North Tollway or the George Bush Turnpike to avoid the detour

TxDOT Dallas has confirmed that the ramp is undergoing critical bridge maintenance, which includes structural repairs, deck overlays, and barrier upgrades. The project is part of an ongoing multi-stage maintenance campaign that has impacted the interchange for the past several months.

This most recent ramp closure represents the latest phase in a series of adjustments at the IH‑45/IH‑30 interchange over recent months:

  • Previous closures have included the westbound IH‑30 off-ramp to southbound IH‑45, which remained closed into early July.
  • Other sections of IH‑45 and IH‑30 ramps have been periodically narrowed or shut down for bridge maintenance, barrier work, and resurfacing efforts.

The closure is expected to cause significant delays, particularly during evening and morning rush hours. TxDOT advises all drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes.
