The residential community could be one of several helping Dallas increase the number of single-family permits issued in the city.

A residential development proposed in Dallas could be a small step toward reversing a trend of low single-family permitting levels in the city.

Arlington-based homebuilding giant D.R. Horton aims to construct a relatively small single-family community on a roughly 28-acre property bounded by Bonnie View Road, Southerland Avenue and Arrow Road. The development will feature 126 lots and about 6 acres of open green space, according to a conceptual plan submitted to the city. The Dallas City Plan Commission will consider the residential project during its July 10 meeting.

The City of Dallas is actively working to increase the supply of housing, including single-family homes, through various incentives and policy changes. Some of the incentives to encourage developers to build communities for more affordable homes include tax abatements and development grants. The city has also worked in recent years to streamline the building permitting process.

The 25-story Winners Tower will also appear before the commissioners. The $240 million mixed-use high-rise will feature luxury condos, small business offices and a hotel. This also comes a few months after the City of Dallas launched DallasNow, a new land management system seeking to simplify, modernize and potentially accelerate the permitting and zoning process following complaints from developers.
