Author Ebony Lynn Mudd has written Just Like Tina: Inspired by the Life of Tina Turner, a children’s story that honors the legendary singer while encouraging kids to embrace their individuality. Illustrated by Maruga Koops, the book will be published by Penguin Workshop on January 27, 2026, and is already available for preorder.

So, just what can readers, both young and old, expect from this new book? Well, take a look at the official book description from Penguin Workshop below.

Tina was fearless. Tina was resilient. Tina was kind. And Shay is determined to follow in her footsteps in this lyrical and encouraging picture book inspired by the life of Tina Turner.

Shay may be the biggest Tina Turner fan there is. Tina’s songs, videos, and performances have flowed through her house for as long as she can remember, and Shay is pretty sure she’s been a Tina Turner fan since birth, her love only growing more and more over the years. And now is her time to be Tina… on stage, at least. The annual Tina Turner Day celebration has arrived and Shay wants to be just as charismatic and perfect on stage as her idol. But when no one else seems to be as passionate, Shay starts to question if she really can be just like Tina.

Adding even more of a personal touch to the new book is a foreword from Turner’s husband, Erwin Bach. He shares his thoughts on keeping the music legend’s memory alive.

The Penguin Workshop synopsis states, “This story honors Tina Turner and strives to keep her memory alive for many generations of readers to come while reminding readers that being themselves is simply the best.”

Mudd brings a wealth of creativity to the book. Per her bio, as a former professional dancer and teacher, the talented author wants her work to focus on uplifting Black children and spotlighting the diverse experiences within the Black community.

Turner, passed away in May 2023 at the age of 83. She was known for not only hit songs such as “Proud Mary,” “The Best,” and “Private Dancer,” she was also a symbol of resilience, reinvention, and power.
