Ferris, known for its Ferris Brick Company, is proud to add another line to its city history.
FERRIS, Texas — In case you forgot: It’s Taylor Sheridan’s world, and we’re just living in it.
That’s especially true in North Texas, where the “Yellowstone” show creator has filmed numerous projects and spinoffs and prequels over the last five years. Now, there appears to be another in the pipeline, and it’s not one we’ve heard of just yet.
Ferris, a city of about 4,000 people 20 miles south of Dallas, announced this week that a new “Yellowstone” spinoff series will be filmed there. Ferris officials say the new show will be titled “Rio Palo,” which translates to “stick river” in Spanish, although it’s not clear what, if any, meaning that will hold for the show, or how that relates to anything in the “Yellowstone” universe. (Random aside, however: Sheridan directed the 2017 film “Wind River,” set in Wyoming).
We’ve reached out to Paramount to get any available intel on the project.
In any case, Ferris officials say the show will be filmed at various locations around the city, and that one of those locations – undisclosed at the moment – will serve as the “central home of the show’s lead characters.”
Ferris, known for its Ferris Brick Company, is proud to add another line to its city history.
“This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris,” Ferris city manager Brooks Williams said in a statement. “Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. Ferris bricks are in streets, schools, and courthouses across this country. But that is just part of who we are. Ferris has never settled for being one thing. This city has evolved, adapted, and grown. Paramount’s decision to film here is one more chapter in that story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward, that a city shaped by history can also shape what comes next. We are proud of what this means for Ferris and proud to show others what we already know. We are just getting started.”
A start date for filming on the show hasn’t been announced.
The “Rio Palo” announcement is an interesting one, given that there’s been no word – at least publicly – of its existence. We’ve known about the potential Four Sixes Ranch spinoff, and a Kayce Dutton-led “Y: Marshals” show is in the works. “Yellowstone” fan favorites Beth and Rip are also getting a spinoff show – perhaps “Rio Palo” is theirs? We’ll see.
Sheridan is currently filming Season 2 of “Landman,” which prominently features Fort Worth and surrounding areas of Tarrant County. The “Landman” production most recently shut down streets in Dallas.
He also filmed later seasons of “Yellowstone” in and around Fort Worth, as well as the “1883” prequel to “Yellowstone.”
