Frisco ISD voted Monday night to close the middle school campus after the 2025-2026 school year.
FRISCO, Texas — A North Texas school board voted Monday to close one of the district’s oldest campuses.
The Frisco ISD board of trustees unanimously approved closing Staley Middle School after the 2025-2026 school year at their Oct. 20 meeting. Staley Middle School students will be rezoned to Griffin Middle School, Trent Middle School, and Hunt Middle School starting in the 2026-2027 school year.
Among the reasons officials cited for the closure were costly repairs needed to the school in the 6900 block of Stadium Lane in Frisco and declining enrollment.
“Campus closures (are) becoming a harsh reality for many districts,” Frisco ISD Place 6 Sherrie Salas said ahead of the vote. “Unfortunately, the declining enrollment in Texas public schools is what has us here today.”
The vote comes after months of discussion regarding the future of Staley Middle School and after voters rejected a bond package in 2024 that included a proposed new Staley Middle School campus. The vote for Proposition B failed by a margin of 52%-48%.
“We would prefer that FISD be immune to campus closures, but that is not the case,” Salas continued. “The landscape of Texas public education is changing.”
Some parents previously told WFAA that they felt the school had been ‘historically underfunded’ and ‘overlooked’ by the district.
The building that now houses Staley Middle School, which Frisco ISD officials note is among the oldest campuses in the district, was originally built in 1973 to house Frisco High School, according to Frisco ISD’s website. It was renovated to become a middle school in 1996.
Other school districts across North Texas, including Coppell ISD, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, and others, have also recently considered potential school closures.
