Alcohol may be factor in major crash in Grapevine

Grapevine police are investigating a serious crash that happened early Friday morning along Grapevine Mills Boulevard.

The wreck happened just before 2 a.m. on the intersection bridge above Grapevine Mills Parkway, near the ramps connecting to Grapevine Mills Boulevard.

At least three vehicles were involved and ended up scattered in three different areas across the overpass. The damage is extensive, with a power pole snapped in half, and debris is spread across the roadway.

NBC 5 learned from an investigator on the scene that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

At least four ambulances were seen transporting patients from the scene. The extent of the injuries is not yet known.

Investigators from multiple agencies were on scene responding, including Euless, Coppell, and Grapevine. Crash scene investigators were seen using specialized technology to map the crash and determine what led up to it.

The traffic lights and street lights at the intersection are out due to the crash. Power remains on for nearby businesses and apartments.

As of 7 a.m., the intersection remains closed, and drivers are urged to avoid the area.

The crash remains under investigation.
