The Mozart of Madras, AR Rahman, met with OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman at his office and posted a beaming picture on social media. He wrote, “It was a pleasure to meet Sam Altman at his office.” The two-time Academy Award-winning musician and composer revealed their upcoming collaboration.
We discussed “Secret Mountain,” our virtual global band, and how to empower and uplift Indian minds to use AI tools to address generational challenges and lead the way forward.”
Two Indian-origin employees at the ChatGPT maker firm shared their excitement on X/Twitter, with one stating, “Having @arrahman at the OpenAI office was surreal. Incredibly special! More to come.” The other OpenAI techie remarked, “It was a pleasure hosting you in our office today. Your desire to uplift people through music and AI was evident.”
The Roja (1992) and Slumdog Millionaire (2008) musician also met with Perplexity AI’s Indian-origin co-founder Aravind Srinivas, who shared the collaboration on X/Twitter.
Great hosting @arrahman at the @perplexity_ai office today with live demos of the Comet browser and his upcoming project “Secret Mountain.”
Set in the Metaverse, AR Rahman teased the Secret Mountain last year. The AI integration seems a natural progression with the metaverse getting redundant.

Reactions poured in, with netizens applauding AR Rahman for stepping up the game and embracing the latest in tech. However, several expressed skepticism of AI’s long-term impact on the music industry at large.
One user wrote, “It’s just wild wild west, AI + anything = opportunity.” Another user quipped, “Artists often talk more against the inclusion of tech in their works; be it movies, music, or photography among many others. Yet @arrahman always was an early adopter and two steps ahead -be it 1990s film music or as a director of Le Musk, or by embracing the current AI wave.”
A paranoid user asked, “Sir, will AI take the job of a songwriter in the future?” Yet another suggested, “We don’t need that. Kindly stay away from this guy and AI tools.”
One user jibed, “From AR Rahman to A.I. Rahman, must have been quite the journey,” as another joined the chorus, “We are gonna get A.I. Rahman pretty soon, guys.”
One netizen urged, “Please don’t let AI swoop into the music industry, man.”
