It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours as A-List actor Austin Butler and iconic director Darren Aronofsky explored Austin, Texas!
Promoting a New Movie
The duo came to the capital city on Aug. 13 for an advance screening of their upcoming film, Caught Stealing, at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. Set in 1998, the film chronicles the misadventures of Henry “Hank” Thompson (Butler). The former baseball player turned bartender who finds himself in a world of trouble with New York City gangsters after he offers to watch his neighbor’s cat for a few days.

Mingling with McConaughey
Fellow A-lister Matthew McConaughey introduced the pair before the screening of the new crime thriller based on the Charlie Huston novel. The Sony Pictures film features a star-studded cast including Butler, Zoe Kravitz, Regina King, and Liev Schreiber. After the film, Austin Monthly editor-in-chief Madeline Hollern moderated a Q&A with Butler and Aronofsky, which was also livestreamed to 10 additional Alamo Drafthouse locations hosting advance screenings.
Exploring the City
Playing up the idea of “Austin in Austin,” the actor took up a guest bartending gig at downtown bar Dirty Bill’s on Wednesday night, slinging drinks to the delight of patrons as Aronofsky sat at the bar. On Thursday, the duo popped up all over Austin, from Allens Boots to Torchy’s Tacos and Continental Club. Butler even received his own jersey from the University of Texas Longhorns while in town.
Caught Stealing is set to release in theaters nationwide on Aug. 29.
