Austin’s Best Happy Hours Right Now

Bar Hacienda

$20 for three cocktails

5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday

Just opened in June beneath Tiger Lilly (the space that was formerly Estelle’s), this tucked-away basement bar downtown is offering three cocktails for $20. And there’s no limitation on which drinks—patrons can choose from any of the inventive concoctions that focus on infusions, like a white negroni with chamomile gin or a Sazerac with banana whiskey. Of note: The bar can legally hand over only two drinks to one person, so you’ll need to bring at least one friend with you to make the deal work.

Holiday on 7th

$6 frozen Mexican martini

5-6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and all day Sunday

On the hunt for a drink to cool you off this summer? Look no further than Holiday’s frozen Mexican martini. The East Austin bar and restaurant claims to have invented the drink, and I couldn’t easily find evidence to the contrary. While most frozens tend to run a little sweet, the olive brine makes this one a bit less saccharine, and I’m not sure why someone didn’t think of this before. It’s perfect, right down to the kitschy cactus-themed margarita glass it’s served in.

The Local ATX

$6 negroni, old fashioned, daiquiri and other classics

2-6 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday

These days, you’re lucky if you can find a negroni for $10 at any hour of the day. And since the classic cocktail is my favorite drink, I selfishly set out to find the best deal in town for a pour of the time-honored recipe—which I found at The Local ATX. With its mid-century modern bar and comfy booth seating, this far South Austin diner offers a menu of classic cocktails for $6 during happy hour, which runs for an incredible four hours every day that they’re open. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner daily, with brunch on the weekends.

Bill’s Oyster

$10 burger and $10 martini

3-5:30 p.m., 7 days a week

You might find cheaper burgers or martinis, but the quality and the sum of the parts at Bill’s Oyster make it one of the best deals in town. Crafted with brisket and short ribs and topped with tomato, onion, American cheese, and a special sauce that features pickled okra, the hefty smashburger is one of the best in town. While it would usually set you back $21 on the regular menu, it’s just $10 during happy hour. Pair it with a $10 Beefeater or Tito’s martini made to your specifications. Don’t sleep on the delectable crab hushpuppies served with a fantastic horseradish-y dipping sauce, either.

Lil’ Easy

$1 Miller Highlife, $5 Pimm’s cups, half-off frozens

4-6 p.m., every day

You won’t find cheaper beer anywhere in town than this Cajun food hangout in deep East Austin. For two hours every day, you can score a Miller Highlife for just a buck. The restaurant also offers $5 Pimm’s cups, perfect for summer sipping. For the uninitiated, the drink uses a gin-based English liqueur with a carefully guarded recipe of spices and botanicals (imagine a much more floral version of cola) mixed with lemon juice and ginger ale. It’s the official drink of Wimbledon—in other words, a refreshing beverage for hot days basking out on a lawn or patio.
