Battlefield 2042 is getting a surprise 9.2 patch, called the “Road to Battlefield 6” update. The sudden rollout seems to be DICE’s attempt to keep excitement alive for the next entry. It also comes as a response to the mixed reactions from the Battlefield 6 open beta.
Before the latest update, the open beta for the upcoming edition of the popular video game recently ended. However, many fans expressed disappointment, claiming that it failed to capture the essence of the franchise.
In response to the backlash, DICE is introducing a set of changes to address concerns and turn criticism into steps toward progress.
Although Battlefield 2042 did not stop receiving updates this year, most of them were minor changes and fixes. In particular, Patricia Hernandez of Polygon stated that these were merely small adjustments, limited-time events, and some crossovers.
On the other hand, Electronic Arts (EA) reports that the new patch is far more substantial. Specifically, it will bring new weapons, vehicles, a fan-favorite map, and a free battle pass with exclusive Battlefield 6 rewards.
Expanding the Arsenal and Vehicle Options
The 9.2 update introduces two brand new weapons to the arsenal. First, the KFS2000 assault rifle. This firearm delivers increased accuracy and refined recoil control. At the same time, this new rifle offers greater versatility compared to its predecessor, making it a stronger option. Second, the Lynx sniper rifle. It is a semi-automatic anti-material powerhouse. Likewise, players can use it to tear through cover and unleash heavy damage to vehicles.
Similarly, the patch for Battlefield 2042 will enable players to get a hold of two fresh fighter jets. With the latest patch, they can use the A10 Warthog and SU-25TM Frogfoot. Both aircraft are designed to dominate the battlefield.
Reviving a Legendary Battleground
As part of the major update, the popular Iwo Jima map is returning to the game. While it is not entirely new, it brings a strong sense of nostalgia while offering fresh challenges for current players. EA also says that the map allows users to apply their tactical prowess.
Free Battle Pass Rewards
By playing the new content in Battlefield 2042 and participating in the upcoming Best of Portal event, players will get the chance to earn 60 free tiers, unlock exclusive Battlefield 6 rewards, and get additional items.
Furthermore, GameRant reports that DICE’s move is effective. As of August 18, Battlefield 2042 has recorded more than 20,000 peak Steam players — its highest in nearly a year.
