Ben Shapiro says it would be “borderline impeachable at best” for DOJ to give Trump $230 million

BEN SHAPIRO (HOST): Alrighty.

So, meanwhile, there’s been a lot of dyspepsia over President Trump’s plan to try and cut a settlement with the DOJ for some hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation for the DOJ targeting President Trump. Now, as I’ve said before, I think that the DOJ under Joe Biden did in fact target President Trump.

The problem is that going after the taxpayers who would have to foot the bill to somehow compensate President Trump for this, that is a bad precedent beyond which the involvement of people who work for President Trump cutting a check to President Trump is rife with conflicts of interest. It is opening up a door the president does not need to open up. I understand the motivation. I get why he’d want to. I get the temptation. Also, it is borderline impeachable at best to — and if any Democrat did this, if Joe Biden went to his DOJ and he said, listen, I need you guys to cut me a $230 million check — we’d all be going out of our minds regardless of how justifiable the outrage was.
