Black Women for Wellness To Host Free Mammogram & Manicure Event in Partnership with Watts Healthcare Corporation, Blue Haven, Every Woman Counts and McCarty Church

Los Angeles, CA — October 13, 2025 — Black Women for Wellness (BWW) is proud to announce its upcoming Mammogram & Manicure Event on Saturday, October 25, 2025, a community-centered initiative designed to make breast health screenings more accessible, approachable, and supportive for Black women and girls.

In collaboration with Watts Healthcare Corporation, Blue Haven, Every Woman Counts and McCarty Memorial Christian Church, the event will offer no-cost mammograms to women aged 40 and older, along with complimentary manicures as a gesture of care and relaxation following their screening.

We will also provide education to manicurists in a Nail Tech Education Workshop at 8:30 AM PT. Here, participants will learn how salon exposures can impact your wellness and how nail techs can create safer spaces for themselves and their clients. Breakfast will be provided.

This initiative continues Black Women for Wellness’s commitment to addressing breast health through our Keep In Touch Program disparities, ensuring that Black women are seen, heard, and treated fairly when it comes to their health and wellness.

“I encourage all women to take care of themselves by getting screened,” says James Johnson, Medical Imaging Manager at Watts Healthcare Corporation. “With breast cancer being so prevalent in our community, without a doubt early detection saves lives. Breast cancer awareness isn’t just for October — it’s every day.”

“When Blue Haven Foundation uplift young girls and women, we don’t just change one life—we shift the future” says Nikki Bush, President and Chairman at Blue Haven. “Leadership is not given; it is cultivated, and we are here to grow leaders who will transform the world”

“Black women tend to develop breast cancer at younger ages, and the cancers are often more aggressive,” says Janette Robinson Flint, executive director of Black Women for Wellness. “Laminography is a tool used for women with dense breast tissue, because traditional 2D mammograms can miss cancers in dense tissue. It may not be the single best tool for Black women, but it is part of the toolkit we need to stay healthy and well. For this event, we are pairing screenings with something enjoyable and non-invasive, like manicures, to integrate the idea that mammograms should be a regular part of your routine, just like our beauty and wellness practices. We are delighted to partner with Watts Healthcare Corporation, Blue Haven, Every Woman Counts and McCarty Memorial Christian Church to make this possible. Partnerships like these are essential to ensuring we have the resources to build the health we deserve.”
