Candace Owens is in hot water, and she’s not backing down. French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, have hit the podcaster with a defamation lawsuit over her claims that Brigitte was born a man. The legal drama unfolded in Delaware, and Owens is firing back on her YouTube channel, calling it a “goofy” PR stunt.

The Macrons Sue Candace For Defamation
On Wednesday, the French President and the First Lady filed a 22-count defamation lawsuit against Owens in Delaware Superior Court. Per The Washington Post, the 218-page complaint accuses Owens of spreading “outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions” through her eight-part podcast series, ‘Becoming Brigitte.’
The suit claims Owens alleged Brigitte was born male, stole another person’s identity, and transitioned to a woman. It also accuses her of saying the Macrons are blood relatives and that Emmanuel was part of a CIA mind-control plot. According to CBS News, the Macrons sent three retraction demands. The first came in December 2024, while the most recent one was sent on July 1. But Owens doubled down, ignoring evidence like Brigitte’s birth records. The couple says her lies caused “tremendous damage,” subjecting them to a “campaign of global humiliation.”
Their attorney, Tom Clare, called it a “clear-cut case of defamation,” noting Owens’ pursuit of fame and profit drove her to publish knowingly false claims. The Macrons are seeking unspecified damages and a jury trial, and they’re ready to testify in Delaware.
Candace Owens Responds To Lawsuit On Her YouTube Channel
Candace isn’t taking this situation lightly. In a new YouTube video posted on Wednesday, she called the lawsuit “goofy” and an “obvious, desperate public relations strategy.” She doubled down, repeating her claims about Brigitte and taunting the Macrons.
Her spokesperson said, “Candace Owens is not shutting up. This is a foreign government attacking the First Amendment rights of an American independent journalist.”
They claimed Candace repeatedly requested an interview with Brigitte, but got no response, accusing the First Lady of trying to “bully a reporter into submission.” On X, Candace posted, “Brigitte pivots from grooming teenagers to an attempt to groom American courts. LETS GO,” hyping her show.
The suit notes her history of pushing conspiracy theories, like antisemitic tropes, to boost her 7 million X followers and 4.5 million YouTube subscribers. With a French appeals court recently overturning a similar case, Candace seems emboldened, but the Macrons aren’t backing off either.
