Residents of the Lone Star State have an understandable fixation with that oh-so-rare precipitation that only graces these southern states sporadically. Truly, snow in Texas is just as special as catching a glimpse of St. Nick himself. But despite the wintry mood evoked by the the icy blue artwork for Chaparelle’s latest single, the song is really more about the absence of snow. As in, it centers on an apparently jilted lover telling an estranged partner that they’d like to see them “when it snows in Texas.”
The collaboration with indie country darling Sierra Ferrel showcases two of the genre’s rising stars pooling their talents. And truly the three-part vocals sound absolutely fantastic. For Chaparelle, the partnership continues a banner year that has also included widespread media acclaim for the group’s debut album, a national tour, an appearance at Willie Nelson’s Luck Renion, and opening up for Charley Crockett.
This weekend, the group returns to their hometown stomping grounds to headline the inaugural Honky Tonk Fest, produced by Austin Monthly. Snag tickets for that event right here, and stream “When It Snows In Texas” below.
