Dr. Stephanie Elizalde tells WFAA that Dallas ISD has decreased its number of D or F-rated campuses from 65 to just 16.
DALLAS — The Dallas Independent School District has reason to celebrate its most recent A-F accountability ratings from the Texas Education Agency.
Ahead of students’ return to school next week, DISD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Elizalde told WFAA that more than 70% of its schools will receive A or B ratings from the TEA.
“That means we’ve doubled, more than doubled, the number of A’s, more than 50% more B’s,” Dr. Elizalde said.
On top of receiving high marks from the state agency, Dallas ISD is also celebrating a decrease in low-rated schools. Dr. Stephanie Elizalde told WFAA that the district has decreased its number of D or F-rated campuses from 65 to just 16.
“We went from 24 F’s last school year to this school year, we will have two, and we will have gone from 41 D’s to 14,” the superintendent said.
District staff added that all of South Dallas’ schools are currently rated at a B.
“My expectation is that we will be able to sit here with you at this time next year and tell you that we have zero D and F schools in Dallas ISD,” Elizalde said.
Dallas ISD has been on an upward trajectory over the last year. On top of the campus grades, preliminary data from the STAAR test revealed higher reading scores across grades three through eight and improvements in math scores for most grades districtwide.
The TEA is set to release statewide A-F ratings for the 2024 and 2025 school year on Friday, Aug. 15.
