The officer was trapped inside the patrol car due to the damage, according to police.

DALLAS — An officer with the Dallas Police Department was taken to the hospital Friday night after their patrol car was hit by another vehicle, police say.

According to Dallas PD, when the patrol car was hit by the other vehicle, the impact and damage pinned the officer inside of it. Once freed, police said the officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation, though they didn’t specify the extent of any possible injuries.

Dallas PD said that Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene at about 8:03 p.m.

An image of the patrol car taken at the scene of the crash showed significant damage to the left side of the vehicle.
