DART says limited rail service is operating downtown Thursday after a train fire on Wednesday injured 15 people and suspended service.
On Thursday morning, DART said power had been restored in the Central Business District and there was limited service between the Victory, Pealr and Union stations and shuttles were running to fill gaps in service.
Six passengers were hospitalized Wednesday and another nine were treated at the scene after a piece of equipment connecting the electric train to overhead power lines malfunctioned.
A witness told NBC 5 he saw the train on fire.
“I just ran up, and I just saw the back of the train. I saw smoke, heard the electricity popping and everything like that and I ran up and I saw the back half of the train, it was all on fire, there was a bunch of flames,” said Mario Aldrete.
DART said staff will be on hand to assist customers at CBD, Union, Victory, Deep Ellum, Cityplace, and Mockingbird stations.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore full service,” DART said.
