Elon Musk Launches ‘America Party’ to ‘Give Back Freedom’

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has launched a new political outfit in the U.S. called the America Party, aiming to challenge what he calls the country’s “one-party system.” The announcement, made on his platform X, follows a dramatic fallout with President Donald Trump, ending Musk’s role as head of the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Once Trump’s top donor in the 2024 election, Musk turned critic after opposing the president’s massive domestic spending plan, warning it would explode the national debt. Musk now vows to fight lawmakers supporting such policies and promises to “give back your freedom” through his new party.

Elon Musk officially announced the formation of the America Party in a post on X, stating, “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.” Citing results from a recent poll he conducted, Musk claimed there is a 2-to-1 public desire for a new political alternative in the U.S. The announcement marks a significant move following his fallout with Donald Trump.

In his statement, Musk strongly criticized the current state of American politics, arguing that the nation no longer functions as a democracy. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” he wrote, framing his new political venture as a direct challenge to what he views as a corrupt and stagnant establishment.

Further elaborating on his strategy, Musk likened his approach to the historical Battle of Leuctra, where tactical precision overturned Spartan dominance. “The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: Extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield,” he explained, suggesting that the America Party will focus its efforts strategically to disrupt the current power structure.

On July 4, during U.S. Independence Day celebrations, Elon Musk posted a poll on X asking users if they wanted independence from the traditional two-party—or “uniparty”—system and whether he should form the America Party. The response was decisive, with 65.4% voting “Yes” and 34.6% voting “No.” Musk cited this strong public backing as the main motivation behind the party’s launch, positioning it as a response to widespread frustration with both Republicans and Democrats.

The official announcement comes amid escalating tensions between Musk and Donald Trump, triggered by the president’s sweeping new legislation, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which passed Congress and was signed into law on July 4. Musk strongly criticized the bill, claiming it could add $3.3 trillion to the national debt over the next decade. His disapproval of Trump’s economic strategy further solidified his decision to break away and form a new political front.
