A former Indiana correctional officer is at the center of an investigation into a string of sexual assaults across Harris County.
Carl Redfield Jr., 47, is being held in the Harris County Jail on a combined bond of more than $2.5 million. He is currently facing five sexual assault charges stemming from testimonies given by two of his alleged victims — but law enforcement officials believe there may be more.
During a press conference Tuesday, officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said they collected an overwhelming number of videos that captured Redfield sexually assaulting several women in different locations in Harris County.
Court documents provided to Houston Public Media allege that he assaulted and threatened a woman he was dating with a firearm. He is accused of holding the woman at gunpoint and forcing her to perform sexual acts while he recorded it. Court documents stemming from other charges allege that he raped the woman.
“We believe that this may be just the tip of the iceberg,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Tuesday.
Redfield allegedly intimidated his victims to prevent them from coming forward. He was arrested by officers on July 24 at his place of work, a car dealership in the Cypress area.
“We know that people like Carl Redfield Jr. try to intimidate their victims to keep them from coming forward,” Gonzalez said. “They want you to feel ashamed and afraid. Don’t fall for those lies. If you were harmed by Carl Redfield Jr.’s unspeakable acts, we will stand with you to keep you safe and get you the justice you deserve. You are not alone.”
