Fort Worth man shoots home invasion suspect, escapes through a window, police say

FORT WORTH, Texas — Police are investigating a home invasion involving a shooting in Fort Worth early Friday morning, officials said.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the 1400 block of East Maddox Avenue, where a victim told police that several males wearing ski masks and armed with guns broke into his house, according to a police news release.

Police said the victim used a gun to defend himself and the suspects returned fire. The victim then escaped his house through a window and called 911, while the suspects ran away, police said.

Police responded and found a man shot one street north of the original incident. The man who had been shot had called 911 for help, police said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Officers believe the man was shot by the homeowner who initially called police, according to the release.

Police believe two other suspects were also involved in the home invasion. They remained at-large Friday morning.

The only other injury reported in the incident was the homeowner cutting his leg on glass while escaping his home, police said. His injury was not life-threatening.
