Fort Worth’s transit agency is urging area residents to embrace its slogan: “Let’s Ride!”
After all, every Trinity Metro ride will be free Aug. 4-10.
“This week of complimentary services will allow even more residents to leverage the rally cry of “Let’s Ride!” and get on board a bus, train, On-Demand rideshare van or bike to accomplish just that — riding public transit,” said Glenn Miller, Trinity Metro’s director of marketing. “We’re calling this campaign “Free-Haw!” — a play on “Yee-Haw!” — as we are hoping our riders exclaim that while they are enjoying the week of free rides.”
Trinity Metro’s free services for buses, trains, bikes and On-Demand rideshare will coincide with back-to-school activities and tax-free shopping during the state’s sales tax holiday weekend Aug. 8-10.
No tickets will be needed during the promotion. Simply board a bus or train to explore the county, officials said.
“We want to eliminate any barriers to exploring transit options, and we hope they find it is easy to understand and will choose to ride again,” Miller said.
Trinity Metro’s popular TEXRail line heads from downtown Fort Worth to downtown Grapevine and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. A free shuttle available at Grapevine’s Main Street Station goes to Grapevine Mills mall, resorts and other retail locations within the city. Click here for the train schedule.
Free rides will also be available on the Trinity Railway Express train that goes between downtown Fort Worth and downtown Dallas, however the offer is only valid in Tarrant County.
“If your travels take you east of CentrePort/DFW Airport Station, you will need to purchase a DART Local Day Pass,” Trinity Metro officials said in a news release. To see the TRE schedule, click here.

Buses can take riders to major shopping areas, including Hulen Mall, La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth and University Park Village. Check routes and schedules here.
Trinity Metro On-Demand, a van rideshare service similar to Uber or Lyft, operates in six Fort Worth zones, including three on the southern side and three on the northern side. Riders are picked up at street corners.

The service requires an account, and rides are booked through either the On-Demand or Go Pass apps on a smartphone. To learn more, click here.
About 400 Trinity Metro Bikes, available at 62 stations around Fort Worth, are also included in the free ride offer.
“Although each 30-minute ride is free for the week, your bike usage requires activation of an account and a $50 security deposit held for up to 48 hours,” officials said. Click here to learn more.

Miller said fare-free campaigns are not new to Trinity Metro. In November 2023, the agency offered a full month of free services to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Last summer, Trinity Metro hosted fare-free First Fridays to also generate awareness of the transit system.
The Aug. 4-10 fare-free campaign is “a natural fit because it ties in with tax-free weekend, when families will be traveling to stores for back-to-school items,” Miller said. “These promotions provide an opportunity to thank our loyal riders and to give non-riders a chance to try our transit network.”
