DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Some measure of new hope is available, as rent, utility and food expenses keep rising in North Texas. St. Vincent de Paul still providing, as it has since 2018, free prescriptions to those who have no health insurance.
An uptick in requests for help is expected as SNAP benefits, or federal food assistance, remains held in a political struggle between Republicans and Democrats in Congress who are fighting over subsidies to federal health care, widely known as “Obamacare”. Democrats say it’s necessary or millions of Americans, facing rising premiums, will be left with no health insurance. Republicans have said they’ll discuss a continued aid to that fund, but only after Democrats help them pass a federal budget.
St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy expects an uptick in requests for help. Since 2018, it’s provided more than $130 million in medications to more than nine thousand uninsured North Texans.
