ARLINGTON, Texas — Some businesses in Arlington were evacuated after reports of a gas leak Wednesday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m., a construction company reported a gas leak near the intersection of W. Main Street & Oak Street in Downtown Arlington, police said. Atomos Energy confirmed that the construction crew had damaged a natural gas pipeline.
About 50 people were evacuated as a precaution and are being sheltered at the Downtown Arlington Library. Police said no injuries were reported.
Atmos said it has a crew at the scene and is blocking off Main Street between Center Street and Oak Street.
“Our highly trained technicians remain on scene to make the necessary repairs. Residents may experience traffic delays and should seek an alternate route,” Atmos said in a statement.
As of 8 p.m., police said Atmos was able to stop the leak, but Main St remains closed between West St and Pecan St while repair work continues.
