The Australian actor first appeared on “General Hospital” more than 40 years ago.
WASHINGTON — Actor Tristan Rogers, best known for playing Robert Scorpio on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital,” has been diagnosed with cancer.
A representative for the Australian actor revealed the diagnosis in a statement shared with multiple media outlets on Thursday.
“While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family,” according to a statement. “As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family. Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years. This support means more to him now than ever. Future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate by Tristan and his family.”
Details on the specific type of cancer were not released.
Rogers, 79, has portrayed Scorpio on “General Hospital” on and off since 1980 and in its spinoff series, “General Hospital: Night Shift.” He’s appeared on a number of other soap operas including “Young and the Restless,” “Bold and Beautiful” and “Studio City.” He won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Digital Drama Series for playing Doc in “Studio City.”
The last time fans saw Rogers on-screen as Scorpio was in November 2024 when his character left town with his ex, according to Soap Opera Digest.
