The GCISD Education Master Planning Committee reviewed three elementary school consolidation scenarios and four revised elementary school attendance zones proposed at its Nov. 5 meeting.
The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board of trustees has put the master planning committee in charge of making recommendations for reducing facility and program operating costs and for increasing facility and program revenue. The committee has been reviewing various scenarios, including the ones discussed Nov. 5.
The committee has 18 members, including educators, board members and eight parents with children in the district.
“Whatever solutions are brought to the board for review, they’re not going to be perfect, but there’s a lot of effort on their part to get as close to right as humanly possible,” school board member A.J. Pontillo said at the Oct. 27 school board meeting.
The committee met again Nov. 12.
The consolidation scenarios reviewed Nov. 5:
- Consolidate Bear Creek Elementary School with O.C. Taylor, Heritage and Grapevine elementary schools.
- Consolidate Glenhope Elementary School with Colleyville and Bransford elementary schools.
- Consolidate Colleyville Elementary with Bransford, O.C. Taylor and Heritage elementary schools.
Proposed attendance zone revisions reviewed Nov. 5:
- Options A and B to repurpose Bransford Elementary.
- Option C to repurpose O.C. Taylor Elementary.
- Option D to repurpose Timberline Elementary.
The GCISD is evaluating options because a study of campus use during the 2024-25 school year showed several elementary schools were operating below 80% of capacity, with some below 70%.
As of the 2025-26 school year, two elementary schools are now operating below 60% of their functional capacity and four are operating below 75%, the GCISD has reported.
