The Houston Police Department is searching for a man who is allegedly connected to multiple incidents of inappropriately touching and assaulting women at parks, trails and streets in Houston.
The suspect is described as a white, heavy-set male in his mid-30s with brown hair, riding either a navy blue or a dark green bicycle. Investigators said that during one assault, the suspect allegedly kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach, causing her to suffer a miscarriage.
Houston native Anna McGrath visits the trails in her neighborhood several times a week. She said she was shocked and disgusted when she found out about a man reportedly going around assaulting women.
“Ever since the news broke about this guy who’s been going around on this bike … it’s something that I hate to say, but I am always looking over my shoulder,” McGrath said.
She said the local trails are an important part of the entire community and that many of her friends utilize them for leisure, dates and exercise. McGrath said she hopes that HPD can find the suspect quickly before he attacks again.
“It’s important that we feel safe and protected in our community, especially as we’re doing something as simple as going for a walk,” she said.
McGrath said she has taken precautionary measures to stay safe without having to change her lifestyle.
“I ended up purchasing a stun gun so that I can go on walks by myself without fear of being attacked,” said McGrath.
