What Allegedly Happened To Sheylla Cabrera?
Ring camera footage shows a man—believed to be Sheylla Cabrera formerly known as Sheylla Lisbet Gutiérrez’s husband, Jossimar Cabrera, 36—dragging a large, blanket-wrapped object from the couple’s Lancaster home just days before authorities discovered Sheylla’s body. Neighbors shared the footage with local outlets, prompting a deeper investigation. Authorities first received a report of Sheylla’s disappearance on August 12, and by August 13, homicide detectives stepped in after the surveillance raised serious red flags. Just four days after the initial report, on August 16, authorities found Sheylla’s body over the side of an embankment in the Angeles National Forest—wrapped in what officials say, appeared to be the same material seen in the video.
What’s Going On In The Case?
What started as a missing person report has turned into a heartbreaking homicide case spanning two countries. Authorities have officially charged Jossimar with one count of murder, alleging he used a knife as the weapon in the death of his wife. Although they have not yet taken him into custody, officials believe he allegedly fled the country and is currently in Peru. On Friday, they issued an extradition warrant to start the process of bringing him back to the U.S. for prosecution.
“The allegations against this man are horrific, and we will do everything possible to bring him back under our jurisdiction to be held accountable,” revealed District Attorney, Nathan J. Hochman. “Domestic violence creates chaos in our communities and shatters families. My office is committed to bringing stability back into the lives of those who have been victimized.”
More Details Behind The Investigation
As investigators pieced together the timeline, a clearer and more alarming picture began to form. Authorities revealed that Jossimar allegedly fled to Peru with their three young sons shortly after Sheylla went missing. The children are currently in protective custody and consulates from both Mexico and Peru have been involved in efforts to locate and secure Jossimar’s return. A man believed to be him was reportedly detained by Peruvian police—but later released pending formal charges.
Meanwhile, family members say Jossimar gave them conflicting stories about Sheylla’s disappearance. He apparently first blamed ICE, then claimed she had left with another man, and later suggesting she had an accident. Per ABC 7, Sheylla’s mother had reported Jossimar for domestic violence in Peru, and was planning to file a similar report in Lancaster before she was killed.

What Happens Next In The Case?
If convicted, Jossimar faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison. As this international case unfolds, authorities continue to work with urgency to bring him back under U.S. jurisdiction. Sheylla’s family is calling for justice saying she was allegedly trying to protect herself and her children from escalating abuse. We’ll continue to keep you updated as more details develop.
