Investigation ongoing following deadly crash on I-35 near Troy

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office said the crash involved a “large fire and an explosion.”

TROY, Texas — All lanes of Interstate 35 in Troy have been reopened following a deadly crash Friday night.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office reported the crash around 9:30 p.m. on I-35 at Main Street near exit 306.

While it’s unclear what led to the crash, the sheriff’s office said the crash involved a big rig and several vehicles, and that there was a “large fire with an explosion.”

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office, Troy Police, Temple Police, Texas Highway Patrol, Troy Fire Department and Temple Fire Departments all reportedly responded to the crash. Meanwhile, the northbound lanes of I-35 were reopened around 7 a.m. Saturday, however, the southbound lanes didn’t reopen until around 9 a.m.

The sheriff’s office also confirmed there were “fatalities” but didn’t share additional details.
