Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s meeting at the White House was one for the books. The two men gathered for their first in-person discussion in the Oval Office on Nov. 21 after months of trading barbs in their public remarks.
That meeting, in and of itself, is bizarre to some, but for 34-year-old Mamdani, there is one glaring memory of their encounter that stands out as the strangest.

During the Nov. 24 episode of “The Adam Friedland Show,” Mamdani was asked, “What was the weirdest thing he showed you?”
He answered, “I sit down, waiting for the time of the meeting, and in front of me are all of these different coffee-table books. And one of them is UFC at the White House. I had no idea, and I was just flippin’, flippin’ through that.” Listeners thought he would for sure have a different response.
“Well, I’d say UFC at the White House is pretty weird, all right,” said one commenter as they added, “But what about the big Gobbler in the president’s chair?” That individual was hardly alone in thinking that a twice-impeached president could still have the opportunity to lead the country.
Another person shared, “Sorry Zohran, but the weirdest thing in the White House isn’t the fight club book, nor the dictator king’s merch closet. It’s the dictator king himself. Literally, there is currently nothing weirder on earth than his majesty.”
A contrarian snarked, “I disagree, the weirdest thing in the WH on Mamdani’s visit was Mamdani.”
When Friedland asked if Mamdani would consider watching a UFC fight at the White House, he laughed and said, “No.”
Trump first uttered plans to bring a caged brawl match to Washington, D.C., in July. “We have a lot of land there,” he told supporters at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa. The spectacle would attract between 20,000 and 25,000 people.
He initially said the event would take place on the South Lawn in celebration of America’s 250th birthday on July 2, 2026. However, the schedule shifted up a few weeks when the businessman decided it was better suited to add flair to his 80th birthday on June 14. Renderings of the octagon cage ignited waves of backlash online.
One critic cried, “It’s embarrassing and ridiculous to have fights on the Whitehouse lawn.”
Another said, “What a horrific use of the White House. Every other president understood how to respect the house that belongs to the people – not the president.” Someone else hoped that the grandiose plans would fall through.
They remarked, “Trump’s Presidency is in such turmoil right now this event might not even happen. I don’t wish for more chaos, but I hope this event is cancelled.”
One person who agreed with Mamdani said, “True but he has made a very valid point. Why take a beating to entertain some rich guys who couldn’t be bothered to piss on you if you were on fire.”
Two others joked, “I’ll only watch if Trump is fighting,” and “Next Trump will install a go kart track and a waterslide.”

Rising costs of living and public outcry regarding Trump’s significant beautification project — converting the Rose Garden into a paved patio, decking the Oval Office in gold decals, and demolishing the East Wing for a ballroom — are among the factors contributing to his dwindling approval ratings.
Mamdani, a millennial heralded for his vision to redefine NYC politics, was elected to Trump’s dismay on Nov. 4. He continues to openly view the president as a fascist, though he hopes their meeting will yield positive results for New Yorkers.
