Keller ISD names Cory Wilson as new superintendent

KELLER, Texas — Keller ISD is turning the page on a turbulent chapter, officially naming Dr. Cory Wilson as its new superintendent after a unanimous vote by the Board of Trustees.

Wilson, a longtime Keller ISD educator and administrator, had been serving as interim superintendent since January. His appointment comes months after former superintendent Tracy Johnson resigned amid heated debate over a proposal to split the district in two, a plan that stunned many in the community and drew fierce pushback from parents, staff and students.

At the time, Johnson’s resignation shocked hundreds who packed into a January board meeting where she announced her decision. The controversy centered around a resolution exploring the possibility of dividing Keller ISD, essentially separating students who live in Keller from those who live in Fort Worth. In May, however, the board made it official — no split would occur.

Wilson will also have to grapple with the district’s financial burdens. In April, Keller ISD announced $9.4 million worth of budget cuts due to state funding shortfalls.

Now, the school district is looking ahead with Wilson at the helm.

“Since his appointment as Interim Superintendent, the Board has been pleased with Dr. Wilson’s leadership,” said Board President John Birt.

Wilson has 27 years of education experience and is no stranger to the district. He began his career in Keller ISD in 2002 as a fifth-grade math and science teacher and steadily worked his way up, serving as principal at two elementary schools and later taking on several leadership roles at the district level, including assistant superintendent of education services.

“I love Keller ISD, and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Superintendent,” Wilson said. “I look forward to working with our board, our administrative team, our teachers, our parents, and the entire community.”

Wilson holds degrees from Kansas State University, the University of Texas at Arlington, and Texas Christian University.
