SAM BUSHMAN (HOST): Alright sheriff, ICE is in the news, and I’m really concerned. I like a lot of what ICE has done, but I’m concerned now.
There’s an article in Wired Magazine. Dell Cameron put the article together and here’s the headline. “ICE wants to build out a 24/7 social media surveillance team.” Now I’m very concerned about that. “Documents show ICE plans to hire dozens of contractors to scan X, Facebook, TikTok, and other platforms to target people for deportation.”
Now, it sounds great on the surface sheriff, and I get that we want to use all we can to stop illegal aliens from abusing American citizens.
RICHARD MACK (FOUNDER, CONSTITUTIONAL SHERIFFS AND PEACE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION): Yeah.
BUSHMAN: I get it and agree. But when you crank this up, pretty soon you’re going to have ICE built 24/7 media-monitoring network that’ll be taken over by the Democrats. And, buddy, they will use that thing like a — I don’t even know what word to use. A samurai sword that’s double bladed, double sided. I don’t know. It’ll be crazy if we’re not careful. So we think we’re doing things that are right, but it’ll backfire, sheriff.
MACK: No. That’s — yeah. That’s completely unconstitutional. And, I can’t — I can’t support it, Sam.
…
MACK: Government isn’t who has the best ideas. Government is successful when we follow the rules, when we follow the Constitution, when we enforce it, when we keep our oath, when we see the foundational principles in action, and that now they’re being destroyed by our own government officials because they have a — ”Oh, we got a great idea here.” There’s sheriffs that go along with some of this stuff. “If it helps us get criminals, then we’re going to do it, the Constitution be damned or the Constitution notwithstanding.”
And this is the problem. We’ve all been brainwashed, including Republicans, that if we have a good idea, well, of course, we just do it. And it’s so wrong, and this is so indicative of the corruption within our own government that thinks it can do anything it wants. And that’s why we had the Patriot Act from the the George W [Bush] presidency and administration. So, no Sam. I’m not going to support that.
And I will call somebody in Washington, D.C. who you and I both know is working with ICE a great deal. And I’m going to make that call. [UNINTELLIGIBLE] We cannot sacrifice the Constitution —
BUSHMAN: And ask about that because the question is, when we say ICE is for this, who is ICE? Does that mean Trump? Does that mean Tom Homan? Does that mean, you know, Kash Patel and people? Does it mean Pam Bondi? Does it mean Kristi Noem? Who is wanting this to be the case? I get their point. The problem is they’re very misguided. Is the right idea the wrong for remedy, sheriff?
MACK: Yeah. Again, I guess what you’re alluding to there is make — don’t let the cure be worse than the disease.
BUSHMAN: Amen to that.
MACK: And that’s kind of — that’s what they’re kind of doing here. And, you know — and Tom Homan has been kind of rendered impotent when it comes to doing his job right now because he’s been under that criminal investigation.
…
MACK: Please tell me, Sam, that Tom Homan is smarter than to take a bag full of money from somebody walking up to him on the street or, you know, looking like a —
BUSHMAN: He didn’t take a bag full of money from walking up to him on the street, folks.
