Man critically injured after ‘car surfing’ incident at Regional Airport, officials say

Mineral Wells police are investigating after a young man was thrown from a moving vehicle at the Mineral Wells Regional Airport.

MINERAL WELLS, Texas — Mineral Wells police responded to a 911 call Monday night after a young man was thrown from a moving vehicle at the Mineral Wells Regional Airport.

It happened around 9:05 p.m. in a part of the airport that’s not open to the public, a city spokesperson said in a news release. The man had reportedly been “car surfing” or riding on the exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle was reportedly being driven erratically and at unsafe speeds.

Emergency responders tried to treat the man at the scene, but because of how serious his injuries were, he was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in Fort Worth, the release states. He remains in critical condition. His identity was not immediately released.

The Mineral Wells Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident.
