Work on the massive, $2 billion Hard Rock Hotel-anchored project along Lake Texoma reportedly began in 2024.
OKLAHOMA, USA — Construction of a highly-anticipated Hard Rock Hotel along Lake Texoma near the Texas-Oklahoma border has stalled.
Work on the Pointe Vista development, which developers touted as a $2 billion, 2,700-acre master-planned resort community stretching along 19 miles of Lake Texoma shoreline designed to include a casino, golf course, enclosed waterpark, family entertainment center, began in 2024.
Construction on infrastructure for the Hard Rock Hotel as part of the project began in November 2024, the Dallas Business Journal reported. The hotel was planned to have 189 rooms and to include a conference center.
Now, Pointe Vista President Grant Speakes says construction of the Hard Rock Hotel is on hold, pending a vote on a tax increment financing (TIF) district, which is expected this fall.
KXII reported Marshall County Commissioners in Oklahoma voted down the TIF proposal in a 2-1 vote in June. The proposal reportedly would have allowed Pointe Vista to use tax revenue generated from the development for infrastructure improvements in the area, without raising taxes on residents. Speakes says the TIF is necessary for utilities for the project, particularly for a water treatment plant.
“Pointe Vista remains fully committed to this project, but without the TIF, we will not be able to deliver the caliber of development we’ve envisioned,” Speakes said in a statement to WFAA. “The people of Marshall County and the entire Lake Texoma region deserve a destination they can be proud of — a place where families can make memories for generations to come. Our goal hasn’t changed, and securing the TIF is essential to making it a reality.”
The Dallas Business Journal reported both the hotel and Hard Rock residences, which was set to include rental homes ranging from 667 to 3,000 square feet, were previously expected to open in the summer of 2027.
Lake Texoma attracts nearly 7 million visitors every year, hosting multiple fishing and golf tournaments at the country’s 14th-largest reservoir, according to a previous news release.
The Chickasaw Nation opened West Bay Casino and Resort overlooking Lake Texoma near Kingston in the spring of 2023.
Hard Rock operates or licenses 290 locations, including 37 hotels and casinos, in more than 70 countries.
The project is within 50 miles of both the Chickasaw Nation’s Winstar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville and Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant.
