If you’re hoping to land a job at Meta anytime soon, brushing up on your coding might not be enough. According to a recent report, the tech giant is revamping its interview process, and this time, AI is taking center stage. But instead of AI doing the hiring, it’s becoming your partner in the test.
That’s right, Meta is reportedly rolling out a new interview format where candidates will be expected to use an AI assistant during their coding tests. It’s a big shift from traditional interviews, which usually limit the use of external tools. This change, however, is all about making the process more realistic and aligned with how developers actually work today, side-by-side with smart tools.
Meta just killed coding interviews as we know them.
No more DSA. No more LeetCode.
They let you use AI during the interview.
While Anthropic still gatekeep with old-school tests like DSA & LeetCode

The company shared internally that this approach isn’t just about keeping up with trends. It’s about preparing for the future. Meta wants a team that’s not only skilled in writing code but also comfortable working with generative AI tools, the kind that can help write, review, and optimise code faster and smarter.
To get things off the ground, Meta is already testing these AI-powered interviews with current employees. Volunteers are participating in trial runs of the new format to help the company fine-tune the questions and structure. The goal? To create an interview experience that mirrors real-world development environments, and to make it harder for candidates to “cheat” by secretly using AI tools. If everyone is allowed to use AI, the focus shifts to how well you use it, not whether you’re using it at all.
This shift also comes on the heels of a major reorganisation earlier this year, where Meta let go of over 3,600 employees due to performance issues. Since then, the company has doubled down on its AI efforts, launching Superintelligence Labs and pushing toward a future where AI is tightly integrated into everything it does.
As CEO Mark Zuckerberg put it in a podcast earlier this year, the goal is to have AI that’s as effective as a mid-level software engineer. That means tomorrow’s engineers at Meta will need to do more than just write clean code, they’ll need to collaborate with AI to build smarter, faster, and more scalable solutions.
In short, AI won’t just be watching from the sidelines, it’ll be sitting next to you during the interview. Welcome to the future of hiring.
