In its ongoing massive layoff spree, Microsoft has axed 40 more jobs in its Washington Headquarters. The current round of job cuts was disclosed by the tech giant in its state filing on Monday.
Independent consultant Amanda Goodall, in her tweet, claimed that laid-off Microsoft employees reached out stating their ordeals. One techie remarked, “We were told not to post on LinkedIn. Not to say anything.” Another quipped, “I worked for Microsoft for 15+ years. My crime? Being over 55.”
The layoffs come in the wake of the company’s record-breaking quarterly revenue and profits, which is ironic. The company has invested $88 billion in 2024 and plans to spend an additional $30 billion in 2025 on AI. AI has also been considered one of the primary factors in the layoff of 1,900 Blizzard and Xbox employees. Following the job loss, Xbox’s producers infamously advised the fired staff to use AI to deal with the trauma.
Microsoft, which has so far laid off over 15,000 of its employees, said that it will continue to prioritise and invest in strategic growth areas.https://t.co/yeJSOmUmgD

Reactions poured in, with netizens divided over the opinion whether AI is responsible for the layoffs or the H1B1 Visas? One user jibed, “Microsoft appointed an Indian. The Indian CEO fires everyone, hires only Indian H1Bs then moves operations to India.” Another wrote, “Those jobs are all going to India.” A third user remarked, “Jobs are not safe but it’s not due to AI automation; it’s because the wage bill is the biggest overhead at MSFT and they need more and more money to fund the data center capex.”
Yet another user commented, “These cuts are not because AI is replacing jobs. This is all about hitting EBITDA targets—which is how their execs get bonuses, not on market cap.”
One netizen wrote, “Even AI jobs are not safe in the AI boom.” Another stated, “Guess we’re all just one AI upgrade away from a permanent vacation.”

Those jobs are all going to india. Their ceo is Indian. You know he is double dipping! Selling out to india for a check and getting an insane compensation package running an American company.

Jobs are not safe but it’s not due to AI automation, it because the wage bill is the biggest overhead at MSFT and they need more and more money to fund the datacentre capex.

It is true however these companies are laying off to divert funds to their data centre expansions.
