Multi-city chase leads to fatal police shooting, Lewisville police say

Lewisville police were involved in a multi-city chase overnight that ended in a police shooting, officials said.

LEWISVILLE, Texas — A police chase overnight ended with a Lewisville police officer shooting and killing a suspect after she refused to drop a weapon, according to a press release from the department. 

Shortly after midnight, a Lewisville police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle whose driver was suspected of having a felony warrant out for her arrest, the Lewisville Police Department said in a press release. The officer confirmed the suspect’s identity during the stop before the female driver sped away, the release states. 

Police pursued the driver through multiple cities, police said. During the chase, the suspect crashed into a Lewisville police patrol vehicle and continued to flee, the release states. The officer involved in the crash was uninjured. 

The chase ended in a parking lot in the 2200 block of the southbound Interstate 35E service road in Lewisville, the release states. 

According to police, the suspect produced a handgun during the arrest and refused to comply when officers told her to drop the weapon. Officers shot at the suspect, and she was hit, the release states. 

The woman was transported to a hospital where she died, the release states.
