DENTON, Texas — One person was killed in a shooting near the Denton Downtown Square Saturday afternoon, police said.
In a news release, the Denton Police Department said that officers responded to the 200 block of W. Hickory Street just after noon to multiple reports of a shooting.
Police said its preliminary investigation revealed that the incident started between a male patron and a person experiencing homelessness.
According to Denton PD, the shooter remained on the scene and was detained by officers for questioning once they arrived. Police said that the shooting victim was taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Denton Police Department said Hickory Street between Cedar and Elm Streets were closed as the investigation continues.
