Panthers aim for playoff return!

The Anahuac Panthers aim for a playoff return this season under Coach Greg Neece.

ANAHUAC, Texas — The high school football preseason rolled on Tuesday afternoon, and in Anahuac, the Panthers are setting their sights on a return to the postseason.

Head coach Greg Neece and his team are coming off a 6-4 campaign in 2024, including a 3-3 mark in district play. Despite a winning record, the Panthers found themselves on the outside looking in when playoff brackets were set.

Neece said that last season’s finish is in the past and has no bearing on the task at hand.

“What happened last year really has no impact,” Neece said. “That’s our goal, to get to the playoffs. We’re excited and ready to get started.”

The Panthers will lean on a core group of seniors to help lead the charge toward that goal. Experience on the roster could prove pivotal as the season unfolds, particularly in tight district matchups.

Anahuac will open its 2025 campaign on the road against the Hitchcock Bulldogs on Aug. 29. The early test will give the Panthers a chance to measure themselves against a quality opponent before diving into district play.

Fans eager for an early look at the team will get their chance this weekend. The Panthers will host an open scrimmage at 8 a.m. Saturday, offering a preview of the talent and energy Coach Neece hopes will propel Anahuac back into playoff contention.

With preseason practices in full swing and the opener just weeks away, the Panthers are focused on turning hard work into a postseason berth.
