Liam Spahnle-Bailey was killed in April by stray bullets from a shooting in a nearby apartment unit. Police identified three suspects in May who remain at large.
GRESHAM, Ore. — Gresham police and Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez are reiterating their call for the public to help locate the three suspects in the shooting death of 13-year-old Liam Spahnle-Bailey. Police identified the suspects in May, but they remain at large.
Spahnle-Bailey was sleeping in his father’s Gresham apartment in the early morning hours of April 27 when he was struck by stray bullets that came through the wall when the shooting broke out in an adjacent unit. He later died from his injuries at a hospital. A second victim who has not been identified was also also injured and hospitalized, but survived.
About three weeks later, the Gresham Police Department (GPD) publicly identified three suspects: Anthony C. Hunter Jr., Xavier Hirsch and Terrell Coy. Police did not say how they had linked the three to the shooting, but released photos and descriptions and asked for anyone who saw any of them to call 911.
The whereabouts of all three suspects remained unknown as of Thursday. At a news conference Thursday morning, Vasquez and GPD officials called on the public to help locate the suspects, and said that the U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $15,000 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to their arrest.
“I also want to say, if you’re hiding these individuals, if you’re aiding them in any way, I will prosecute you,” Vazquez added. “This family, this community, deserves justice, and this needs to come to an end with those individuals being brought into custody.”
Police also provided a few additional details about the suspects. Hunter Jr. — 20 at the time of the shooting, now 21 — has connections to Portland, Las Vegas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Hirsch, 20, also has connections to Portland and Dallas-Forth Worth as well as Vancouver, Washington. Coy — 16 during the shooting, now 17 — has connections to Portland, Salem, Phoenix and Tucson.
Anyone with information is asked to either contact detectives via email, call the GPD tip line or report the information anonymously online through CrimeStoppers. GPD has previously said emails should go to Detective Lindsay Friderich at Lindsay.Friderich@GreshamOregon.gov or Detective Martin Daly at Martin.Daly@GreshamOregon.gov.
