After his arrest, McGann was taken to the ASP Troop L Headquarters, where he “made statements indicating that he had committed the two homicides.”
WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — A preliminary report has been released sharing new details on the stabbing of two people at Devil’s Den State Park on July 26 and the arrest of their alleged killer.
The report said Washington County Dispatch received a 911 call from someone reporting they had found two bodies and a large amount of blood on a trail at the park.
Officials would later confirm this to be 43-year-old Clinton Brink and 41-year-old Cristen Brink, who had recently moved to Prairie Grove and were at the park hiking with their two youngest daughters.
The report said the girls, 7 and 9, were found by a hiker who got the girls off the trail and later discovered the bodies of their parents.
Arkansas State Police (ASP) said during a July 31 press conference that Clinton was likely attacked first, and Cristen took the girls to safety before turning back to help her husband.
According to the report, ASP arrived and began interviewing witnesses, one of whom said they saw someone emerge from a trail with what looked like blood on his face before getting into a black car and driving away. A second witness said the car the suspect drove off in was a Kia Stinger.
Investigators on the scene observed a trail of blood believed to belong to the victims and collected all evidence, the report said.
On July 28, two days into the hunt for the suspect, the Arkansas State Crime Lab performed an autopsy on the Brinks and found that both of the victims died of stab wounds.
On July 30, police found 28-year-old Andrew McGann getting his hair cut at Lupita’s Beauty Salon and Barber Shop in Springdale when he was located and arrested.
McGann told police he owned the Kia Stinger parked out front and allowed investigators to enter his car, where they found what was possibly blood. The report added that police observed cuts on McGann’s hands when they found him at the salon.
After his arrest, McGann was taken to the ASP Troop L Headquarters, where he “made statements indicating that he had committed the two homicides,” the report said.
The report added that McGann “waited with deliberated purpose.”
McGann was later transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond on two counts of capital murder. He’s expected in court on Aug. 1
