OpenAI launched its most affordable ChatGPT in the world, providing its Indian users the AI tool at Rs 399 a month. The new subscription tier gives the Indian users access to powerful features of the chatbot with 10x higher message limits than the free tier. Additionally, the subscribers of the new scheme will also avail ten times image generation capabilities, 10x more file uploads and also 2x longer memory.
Announcing the same on X/Twitter, Sam Altman remarked,
ChatGPT Go launches in India!”
He added,
Looking forward to making ChatGPT more affordable in India first, and then learning from feedback to expand to other countries.”

Sam Altman’s announcement was met with mixed reactions from the desi netizens. Amid praises for launching the cheapest-priced chatbot, the internet shared their skepticism of how this would pan out. Others were paranoid that access to a premium AI from the house of OpenAI will only embolden scammers.
One netizen suggested, “You should pay for Indian data .. your model will be perfect with the diversity.”
“*Scamming intensifies*,” jibed another. A third user requested, “Please restore older models need my gpt to be cold and decisive.”
Yet another user quipped, “You could have announced this on 15th August, ended with “Jai Hind” and sales would have gone 10x. Sadly you don’t know how to launch in India”
“This is a global nightmare,” wrote another user, adding, “giving the least ethical people AI to scam the world better with.”
One user commented, “ You really thought people in India will subscribe to ChatGPT Go for 399 Rs/month when majority of the Indians don’t even subscribe to Youtube Premium Family Plan of 299 Rs/month?? With all the AI and insights you have, someone thought this was workable?” “This is laughable,” the user concluded.
