The AFRO is saddened to learn of the death of SFC (Ret.) Willie R. Cummings at age 98 on Aug. 20.
Cummings, a veteran of the United States Army, died in his Fayetteville, N.C. home around 6:15 a.m., according to sources close to the AFRO.
Arrangements are being handled by Herring Funeral Care and Cremations, and family members are asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, located at 302 Moore St. in Fayetteville, N.C. 28301.
On Aug. 27, immediately after a viewing, which takes place 12 p.m. -1 p.m., a funeral for Cummings will be held. Both the 12 p.m. viewing and the 1 p.m. funeral will be held inside of First Baptist Church.
Cummings will be interred at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Bragg at a later date, according to an obituary released by Herring Funeral Care and Cremations.
Cummings leaves behind his wife, Jessie Cummings; his daughter, Col. (Ret) Edna W. Cummings of Laurel, Md.; a niece, Jacqueline Evans of Odenton, Md., and two grandchildren.
