Crews rescued the pilot, who was the only person on board. The NTSB is now investigating what happened.
OAK ISLAND, N.C. — A small plane made an emergency landing in the ocean near a pier in Oak Island on Saturday evening, town officials reported.
It happened just after 7:30 p.m., and Oak Island’s Safety Unit was already close by, responding to another water rescue call. Crews rescued the pilot, who was the only person on board.
The pilot was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The plane was recovered and later towed out of the water.
The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating what happened.
Several agencies worked together at the scene, including the Oak Island Police and Fire Departments, Southport Fire Department, Caswell Beach Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, Brunswick County EMS, and Oak Island Water Rescue.
The Town of Oak Island thanked all responding agencies for their swift and coordinated efforts during the emergency landing.
