Father’s Final Moments Captured On Livestream

On Wednesday, August 13, around 6:14 p.m. Kevin Watson was posted up in his car in a parking lot, live-streaming on Facebook, per ABC 7 Chicago. Right after leaving his cousin’s liquor store, Watson returned to his vehicle. In the Facebook video, which has racked up millions of views on social media, Kevin spots someone rolling up to his car while he’s talking to the camera. “What’s up, bro?” he says, throwing his hands up. But in a split second, things escalate.

Watson scrambles out of the vehicle as a single gunshot pops off, and a car can be heard peeling out. Kevin was reportedly hit in the chest causing him to collapse to the ground. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The Cook County Medical Examiner has since confirmed his identity and death. Law enforcement officers believe the shooter might’ve been after Watson’s chain necklace, which was later found covered in blood at the scene. Kevin Watson reportedly leaves behind a 7-year-old son.

Kevin Watson’s Family Mourns His Loss

Watson’s family has since spoken out about his passing. His sister, Shamika Watson told NBC News that she was with him about an hour before the incident. Once she got home, she was receiving calls to check on her brother, after being told something happened to him while on FB Live. As she arrived at the scene, she recalled:

“I saw red and yellow tape up, and I knew automatically it wasn’t nothing good. They had told us, we’re sorry, we brought him back. They said he came to them dead on arrival, but somehow they brought him back but he lost so much blood, he just went,” Shamika explained.

Known for his Facebook Live sessions, Watson often shared his day-to-day life activities with his community. His friend Alvin Jackson, who was present at the scene, according PEOPLE, said Kevin was talking to somebody moments before he hopped into his vehicle. However it’s unclear whether that person had any involvement in his death. Meanwhile, another friend, Lamar Spencer, shared the heartbreaking moment he tried to comfort Kevin as he lay on the floor. Spencer said he tried squeezing his hand but got no response, according to ABC 7’s news report. Elsewhere, Kevin’s cousin was just as devastated, saying, “I wouldn’t have let him walk out the store” if he’d known what was coming.

The Suspect Reportedly Remains On The Loose

Chicago PD is on the case, calling this a targeted robbery. Surveillance footage caught a suspect in a black ski mask leaning out of a white car before speeding off toward the Eisenhower Expressway, per the Chicago Tribune. No arrests have been made as of yet, and the cops have yet to share more information on the case. This tragedy hits even harder as it’s the second homicide on that same block in just 48 hours, following the drive-by killing of 26-year-old Brandon Maxey on Tuesday, August 12. Chicago Data Portal says the city’s seen over 200 fatal shootings and 933 non-fatal incidents in 2025 alone, according to Newsweek. Kevin Watson’s family is now demanding justice, determined to help law enforcement find who’s responsible for his death.
